Looking Forward

A few more hours and it’s officially 2008!
What a rollercoaster ride it was for me. A great year it was indeed! :)

There aren’t enough words to describe what 2007 has offered me but the most important lesson learned this year is definitely this one:

God does have a grander plan for everyone
– And it all becomes a reality in His time.

All I can really say to Him is an endless “Thank you.

I am looking forward for 2008; I don’t think I have ever anticipated the next year this much. :)

Best Picture

No, I am not talking about movies.

A LOT (!!!) has happened since my last blog article and I figured, instead of narrating everything in detail, I’ll just pick the 'Best Picture' for each of the events I want to share.

Here goes…

My 27th Birthday
One word that would describe my day was GENUINE. I did not bother exerting any effort celebrating my day, but then - those who love me did! Such happiness that comes from within.

Hongkong Getaway

The cold weather, the romantic spots, the shopping streets, Disneyland’s magic… every second was worth it. No siopao found though. We’ll be back!!!

Tagaytay Getaway
One with nature. Total relaxation. You know you’re happy when your smile comes from your heart.

Boracay Getaway
The getaway that started with the Makati and Everywhere Gang… A.K.A. The Kaladkarins. Fifth time in Boracay, but still loving it!

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~
In between these events were dozens of other significant events too, maybe I'll get to share them someday when I have finally learned how to put them in words.

The Story of the Pencil

(From Paulo Coelho’s Like the Flowing River)

A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter. At one point, he asked:
“Are you writing a story about what we’ve done? Is it a story about me?”

His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson:
“I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I’m using. I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.”

Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn’t seem very special.
“But if it’s just like any other pencil I’ve ever seen!”

That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on to them, will make you a person who is always at peace with the world.

“First quality: you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.

Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, he’s much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.

Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us on the road to justice.

Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So always pay attention to what is happening inside you.

Finally, the pencil’s fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. In just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action.”

Love Actually

It’s Christmas time again, I can't help but be reminded of this movie. I believe it has captured the essence of Christmas.

It’s LOVE, actually.
(MY FAVORITE PART!)
Jamie: It's my favorite time of day, driving you.
Aurelia: [in Portuguese] It is the saddest part of my day, leaving you.

(2nd Favorite)

Jamie: Beautiful Aurelia, I've come here with a view of asking you to marriage me. I know I seems an insane person - because I hardly knows you - but sometimes things are so transparency, they don't need evidential proof. And I will inhabit here, or you can inhabit with me in England.

Prime Minister: [on the phone to his sister] I'm very busy and important. How can I help you?”

Harry: Christmas shopping, never an easy or a pleasant task.

Sam: But you know the thing about romance is people only get together right at the very end.

Daniel: Tell her that you love her.
Sam: No way. Anyway, they fly tonight.
Daniel: Even better! Sam, you've got nothin' to lose, and you'll always regret it if you don't.

Karen: True love lasts a lifetime.

Karl: Life is full of interruptions and complications.

Colin: I'm on Shag Highway heading West.

Billy Mack: Christmas is a time for people with someone they love in their lives.

Daniel: You've seen the films, kiddo. It ain't over 'til it's over.

Colin: American girls would seriously dig me with my cute British accent.

Sam: Let's go get the shit kicked out of us by love.

Colin: I am Colin. God of Sex. I'm just on the wrong continent, that's all.

The President: I'll give you anything you ask for - as long as it's not something I don't want to give.

Mia: It's an art gallery, full of dark corners, for doing... dark deeds.

Billy Mack: It's a terrible, terrible mistake, Chubs, but you turn out to be the fucking love of my life. And to be honest, despite all my complaining, we have had a wonderful life.

Aurelia: [in Portguese] I will miss you. And your very slow typing... and your very bad driving.

[on sheets of poster board]

Mark: But for now, let me say - Without hope or agenda - Just because it's Christmas - And at Christmas you tell the truth - To me, you are perfect - And my wasted heart will love you - Until you look like this [picture of a mummy]

Mark: Merry Christmas

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~
I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes.

Christmas is all around me and so the feeling grows...

Great Un-expectations

It was 11:00 PM and the group just got home to do a quick (meaning 5 minute) rest and head out again to experience night life in Singapore.

Our luck, or the lack thereof, started when we checked out the website of the best bar in the country and learned that it is closed during Sundays (yes, we were going out on a Sunday night since we were toooo tired the past days, thanks to the zoos). We just hoped there were a lot of other foreigners like us who were in a party mood.

Then we finally found another club to go to, but just when we were about to go, it rained…hard. Normal rain in Singapore is just a 5-10 minute drizzle; but this rain has been pouring for hours already, complete with the roaring thunder and blinding lightning package.

Still… we wanted to go. Scrap the train. We’ll ride a cab to go to the club (even if it would cost us 4 times more).

After running with your stilettos on, under the pouring rain, we got to the bus stop and found a taxi waiting. Wooohoo! We got in a cab and told ‘Uncle’ to bring us to Power Station (a power plant converted into bar/clubs). Just our luck (again), someone left their (nice nice nice Samsung) phone in the taxi! I told my brother that God is just testing us. So we gave the phone to the driver and the owner called eventually (the phone will be delivered to the owner later that morning . I wish we could do that in Manila!!!).

Okay, party mode… party mode.

We got to the bar at 12:40 AM. We went ahead looking for this R&B club called Powerhouse, and finally found the entrance with a huge sign “CLUB IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR A PRIVATE FUNCTION.” Wooohooo! Hahaha!

Beside it is a ‘bouncing’ club but with Latin-Lambada-Salsa sounding music. Everyone looked happy (and older) but what the heck! We didn’t have a choice. Just when we were about to enter, the guard told us the allowed age: Women – 18 yrs and up; Men – 23 yrs and up. What’s up with that?!?! Hahaha! Is that proof that women mature 5 yrs faster than men? Hahaha! Anyhow, we can’t get it. My brother is just 21. :P

Okay, party mode? Still in party mode?

Yes, we were desperate. We waited for a while and found a taxi. We’ll just go to this other place (This time, Chimes – A monastery which was turned into a bar/club/restaurant complex!). Just seconds, literally, 2 seconds after we rode the taxi and closed the taxi door… the Powerhouse club went open for public. Hahahaha. Again, just our luck!

A minute in the taxi ride going to Chimes, my brother found a cellphone beside his seat. Oh yes! Somebody left their cellphone in the taxi again!!! Another nice, Nokia cellphone this time. Again, I told my brother ‘God is just testing you, since you are still tempted to get it. Give it to Uncle driver.’ So he did. He’ll just drop it off to the owner later.

Hmm… still in party mode? I guess.

Still under heavy rain, we reached Chimes. It looked like ghost town! We do hear that faint music from the background. We followed the sound and reached Insomnia bar. Just when we were about to get in, the guard asked for our IDs. Again, 18 for women and 23 for men. Hehehe. The guard probably saw how wet and desperate looking we were that after looking at our IDs he said ‘Ok, I’ll let you in just this once.’ We said our thank you’s and explained we were just visiting blah blah blah.

Finally, we were in the club! Beyonce was playing followed by Nelly Furtado… Timbaland… JT… then the music stopped. It was time for the band to play. Uhm, I have watched this vocalist before (the last time I went to Insomnia), only this time he had every band member different. Then they started playing…Greenday’s When I Come Around’ followed by Lenny Kravitz’ Are You Gonna Go My Way. Oh shoot! This is a rock party! Bwahahaha!

Instead of singing ‘To the left, to the left. Everything you own in a box to the left’ we ended up with ‘Exit light Enter night Take my hand Off to never never land!’ Hahahaha!

'The band'
I don't know what the lead guitarist wanted to prove, he had to
have his own electric fan blowing off his ill-rebonded long hair the whole time.

I was fine with their play list (followed by Guns n Roses, Foo Fighters, etc), I was actually having fun. Then I remembered, these were songs way back in my high school! Which means, the band was playing songs when my brother and his girlfriend were still in Grade 1! HAHAHAHA!

Me and Drei with Mr. Vocalist
Thanks to some drunk white guys and the rowdy band, we were all entertained nevertheless. Watching people bounce, run, jump from chairs, tables, bars, crawl, do dolphin dives, and yes, even the vocalist was making cartwheels while singing… we were definitely entertained.

The Pinoy Band
We decided to go home around 2:30 AM, just when this pinoy band started to play. Their sound was Aegis-doing-Tina-Turner-songs. So sorry though, you didn’t make me proud. Tsk.

K.K.K.

Thanks to channel 7’s delaying tactics on airing the Pacquiao-Barrera fight last weekend, I was able to watch Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo from channel 2 instead.

I’ve always wanted to watch this movie but haven’t had a chance to do so. Anyway, so I just wanted to say, I loved the movie! Me and my brother were both laughing so hard with some lines that we can’t even relate to. Every scene would have a punch line. Gina Pareno, panalo ka! Hahaha. The script was SO WITTY!!!

Some lines I remember were:
~ I’ve decide.
~ Hindi kita niloko. Tumikim lang ako ng ibang ulam.
~ Aba, kinakarir ko na pagiging tangang asawa mo eh.
~ Simpleng sorry okay na sana.
~ Afritada?! Potchero yan! Potchero! Yung paborito mo! Potchero!
Hahahaha! Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat… I’ve got my eye on you!
Mabuhay ang pelikulang proudly jologs!!!

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~
This movie will definitely be included in my birthday/Christmas wish list (consolidation in progress… to be published soon. Hahaha!).

Single Transaction

While I was cleaning up my cell phone photo gallery, I saw this picture:

So here’s the story behind this photo...

Several months back, fresh from a very ugly break up, I was going to the bank to transfer my salary into my savings account. I was accompanied by my officemate (who is just 21 years old but has been together with her boyfriend for 6 years, wala lang, I just wanted to mention it). Anyway, so there we were walking into the bank. Upon opening the door, the security guard asked me:

“Ma’am, single transaction po?”
I said, “Ha?”
He said, “Single transaction po ba gagawin niyo?”
I said, “Ay, opo.”

Then he gave me this ‘queue number.’ My officemate and I were both laughing hard when we saw the queue number he gave me.

“Oo na Lord, I know, I get it.” HAHAHAHA!

Hopeful Romantic

My ‘couple friends’ have been torturing me the past days (hehe, torture is such an bluff, I am a sucker for romantic gestures, so EXHILARATED would be the correct term).

Again, my ‘couple friends’ have been exhilarating me nowadays.

Couple 1:
Boy have been meeting with me secretly to ask for my help buying gifts for his GF as a surprise welcome back token (his GF will be coming home after being assigned abroad for more than 5 months). At the same time, his GF has been secretly conniving with me because she scheduled her flight back to Manila, 1 week earlier than what was expected. Therefore, she plotted a surprise meeting with her boyfriend. I set up a meeting with her boyfriend and she came instead!
Couple 2:
Well I am not really involved with this couple’s love story (and they are not even an official couple… YET) but I have been there watching them from the start like a sidekick ‘ate.’ My friend never fails to update me with all the details of what is the newest ‘kilig moments’ everyday! I feel like I am religiously watching a teenage-oriented-love story ala koreanovela! NAKAKAKILIG KAYONG DALAWA!!! Hay! :P
Couple 3:
The GF planned a surprise birthday party for her BF (who is a good friend of mine). She painstakingly contacted his BF’s long lost friends way back in high school, college, and former colleagues, even if she doesn’t really know them personally. She planned this out so perfectly that she even told us not to text her during that time and not to greet his BF all at the same time so as not to pre-empt the surprise. Too bad though, just when they were about to come up into the building (it was conducted in a conference room somewhere in Makati), the BF noticed that his friend’s names are all logged at the registration sheet at the reception area. Hehehe. Surprise!!!

I remember doing these surprise romantic gestures to people before, especially if they are my boyfriend. I already planned out a surprise birthday bash, I give out gifts/notes just because, I give cakes with “Peace na tayo” written on it, I give heart shaped cupcakes, etc etc etc.

Oh well, I guess I would have to wait for my heart’s surprise. I am such a sucker for these cupid stuff.
Nevertheless… I am happy, happy, happy right now. :)

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~
And all of a sudden this song played… “Lintik na pag-ibig, parang kidlat. Puso kong tahimik na naghihintay bigla mong ginulat…” Hahaha.

Gadget Disability

Haaay. What a disappointment. :’(

Boohoo to me. I have a lot of pictures stacked up in my digicam and I just took A LOT of cute pictures of my niece and I can’t even publish them.

My digicam has been showing symptoms that it’ll say ‘bye bye’ soon. It’s LCD display now has black spots in the middle, it’s notice
ably noisy when switching on or off, it’s battery cover is broken, and just now, I discovered… it can’t seem be detected by any computer. Thus, I can’t upload the pictures.

(Hey pentax, don’t give up on me just yet. We’ve only had less than 4 years together, we’ve traveled a LOT of places already. Though I am planning to buy a newer one to replace you, we still have a few more travels to go to before I let you retire okay?)

Then there’s option number 2: use the memory card reader of my laptop. There goes frustration number two as well: the memory card reader is NOT WORKING TOO! WHY!? WHY?! WHY?! I really do not know, I’ve got to consult the experts on this. Still, I can’t upload the pictures.

(And you, white laptop, you have no right to emote whatsoever. We’ve only been together for less than 2 years! Okay, I promise to clean you more often. Deal?)

So What Have I Been Up to the Past Weeks?

Hmm, where do I begin… oh, here:
Makati and Everywhere Chapter is soooo… what else but Everywhere!

September 8, 2007:
Dencio’s Ayala Heights Clubhouse. With just one text and there we are. Buti na lang hindi tamad magdrive si Lesley. Hehehe. Love this place, ang scenic rin ng view.

September 14, 2007:
Friday night out at Alchemy! Thank God I live in this RNB era. Literally dancing your night (and ahem, the dawn) away. We left the club at past 4AM. Hehehe.
September 17, 2007:
Tiendesitas! Sino Sikat gig!
The band is playing at Tiendesitas every Monday until October I think. We call this the Monday group. Too bad we didn’t have a camera this day (no thanks to me for telling Ruelo we don’t need a camera anymore since we are already overexposed), we encountered a lot of new and old faces.

September 24, 2007:
Tiendesitas! Sino Sikat gig again. The Monday group reunites. But this time we have prepared. Three SLR cameras were circling the group. Hehehe.

Aside from these, Lesley and I meet up after office almost everyday; we even have this meeting place called “sa puno naten” hahaha! Ang sweet namin noh? We just meet up everyday (with or without dinner) to catch up with each other’s gossips. Hehehe. Since chat is not allowed at her office, we decided to just update each other by flooding our email inboxes with, what else, but more gossip updates!!!

The Makati and Everywhere chapter is really on a roll. We already have planned (and booked!) trips to... “somewhere.” Then after that we also have plans on going to… “somewhere else.” Before that maybe we’ll be going to “this place” which is just nearby “that place.”

Wooohooo!

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~

We’ll post the pictures for sure. ; )

U.P. ROCKS!!!

Oh my gosh! I have A LOT LOT LOT of updates to write on this blog. But those will have to wait, I can't contain this anymore:

U.P. ROCKS!!!
UAAP Cheerdance Competition Champions! Woot woot!!!

The goosebumps, the skipping heart beat, the overwhelming feeling, there wasn't a boring second with that 6 minute cheerdance!

I had no doubt they were the winners! Never mind if I was jumping and shouting (ahem, my parents stood up and clapped too, but with poise though) like a monkey because of so much happiness when they declared the winner.

No offense, but sorry UST (and a lot of other universities), you all got the Edu Manzano retro fever, too bad it didn't look that cool anymore when almost all of the competitors did the same thing!

I hope to find a better video but here you go (found this from youtube):

Makati and Everywhere Chapter

It all started from my annual college org’s “Meriendahan;” which started decades ago as a simple merienda salu-salo that evolved into a merienda to magdamagan inuman, then just a few years ago, became a buffet dinner inuman-all-u-want variety-show event. This is an annual celebration where the newbies, the applicants, and the oldies (alumni) meet up and mingle over unlimited food and drinks. All in all, we can summarize it in three letters: F-U-N!!!

UP Arki Forum – YOU ARE THE BEST!

The other night, thanks to Globe – connecting people hahaha, most of us oldies met at saGuijo, a small bar in the backstreets of Makati. We wanted to watch Up Dharma Down. Surprisingly, a lot of people showed up, some of them we haven’t even seen years and years ago.

Jupiter, MAKATI @ 7:30 PM

Then again, almost the same set of people, met last night in Makati – this time to go sing our hearts out… videoke! We met at 7:30 PM and had dinner in Makati. We arrived at the videoke bar in Makati at 9:00 PM and left at 11:30 PM! So after a huge bill, we decided it was time to leave videoke but at the same time none wanted to go home just yet. So, not to spoil the momentum, we decided we wanted to go dancing! Nevermind if we were “so not dressed for the occasion.” Hahaha.

The Fort, TAGUIG @ 12:00 AM

Midnight, we headed to the Fort and ended up at Piedra bar. Well, to our surprise, this bar is too high-end for us. No RNB as well. But it was okay, we were all happily drunk anyway, plus Marc Nelson and Borgy Manotoc also was a sight worth seeing (for the boys it was Angel Aquino). As for me, I was confused if it was the beer or my ‘way way past my bedtime’ that was making me fall asleep while dancing. Hihihi.

Metrowalk, ORTIGAS @ 4:00 AM

Around 4:00AM, the bar was officially dead. We wanted to have coffee now. After almost 20 minutes of walking around the area, we still haven’t seen any open coffee shops. So we decided to head to Metrowalk where Starbucks is open 24 hours. To our surprise, the party was still bouncing in Metrowalk at that time! The whole area was jam packed!

It was 5:00 AM, over coffee and some more photos, we decided to call it a night - err, day. We promised ourselves that this was just the start of the resurrection of our night lives.

Party people NO LONGER in the house! Woot woot!

~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~ : ~

Hence, the ‘Makati and Everywhere Chapter’ of Arki Forum was inaugurated along the streets of the fort on September 1, 2007.

Sunny Side Up

It's official.

I miss the sun.

I am not a rain-person to begin with. I don't hate it either. But five days of continuous rain can't help but make me feel gloomy.

Little drops of water is soothing, but five days of rain? NOT at all. It is loud and destructive.

Just the other night, it was a friday, perfect to go out and have fun when you just got your salary. But no, you had to think of the hassle of commuting home. You get worried that you might get stranded, yet again. So I went home and as agreed with my other officemates, we'll just chat online on a friday night... again (as we call it: Party People IN THE HOUSE - literally at home chatting the friday night away). After a 2 hour bus ride, I got home, and before I know it, I was already asleep. Not even able to meet the 'party people' online. Hehehe.

I was thinking, it was okay, I was tired from the commute home, and have no work the next day, it was raining so it was cold...I had the perfect setting to sleep sleep sleep my night and the next morning away. However, thanks to this awful weather, the whole night was filled with thunder-roars, blinding lightning, and the angriest rain I have ever heard my whole life. The biggest lightning I have ever seen and the longest, loudest, scariest thunders I have every heard. You can literally feel the banging on the house walls. The parked cars were all sounding their alarms too. Not at all a peaceful night.

The only time I enjoyed the rain was when I was driving to and from my dentist for my monthly braces adjustment (yeah, monthly visit to adjust to more pain). Driving on an almost empty highway, with heavy rain, and a banging loud RNB music... is relaxing for me hehehe.

Anyhow, I miss the sun, when the flowers are all abloom. I love looking out my room window and see the trees all green and the birds chirping me good morning. Now I look at my window and the 'garden' has now turned into a sludge pit. Boo.

~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~:~
Some weeks ago, the country was praying for rain because of the drought. Now the country is praying for rain to stop. Yeah, life is complicated. Eitherway, let's not forget to pray for our country to have a rest from calamities for now.

Apartment for Rent

A friend of mine was looking for an apartment in Canada, while browsing through the net, he found this ad and he said he had to stop and drink a glass of water then read the ad all over again.

When I got to the second sentence of the ad, I can't help but imagine an eclipse and heard "Time Space Warp ngayon din!" I had to stop everything that I was doing, stop the music, ignore the whole world, and pretend to be stuck in a world where all I had to do to survive was try to comprehend what I was reading.

6:15 AM

It’s 6:15 AM – and guess what, I am already facing my computer – IN OFFICE!

Woke up at 5:15AM (thanks also to my officemate for double checking that I did wake up hehehe), took a shower and left home 5:45 AM. Since I rode a cab that early, my usual 1.5 hour long ride was cut short to the rush-hour free 20 minute dash.

Unlike any ordinary day, the building security was still not checking bags and do not even care about people coming in or out the premises.
Unlike an ordinary day, I arrived earlier than our office security guard. The usual “Good morning Ma’am” became “Good morning po!” while in a shocked face because he was still in his civilian uniform when he saw me.
Unlike an ordinary morning, the office door was still locked and a guard had to open it up for me. I AM THE FIRST PERSON IN OFFICE. Well, not literally, I am the first employee in office.

The facilities staff is still mopping the floors, the aircond is still ‘warming up’ (what an ironic statement), and it feels more of a hot, humid, vacuum work area at this very moment.
They are also setting up for a morning event at 8AM, where everyone will get free breakfast from Mcdonalds. They are sound checking, network checking, cleaning, while some jazz music is playing in the background (Huh? Jazz music? Yeah, I guess the ‘facility man’ is more musically cultured than most people) –
Jazz music, this was soothing – especially for someone like me who only had a few hours sleep last night.

Soothing… Relaxing… Zzzzz…
