So lately, I have been joining a lot of classified ads groups in Facebook where I get to meet a lot of strangers, read their posts and their comments.
This is when I realized that most people nowadays have really gone astray with learning true and correct grammar.
Filipino (Tagalog) is my first language. I cringe everytime I see Filipino sentences written in poor construction; we seldom see wrong spellings in Filipino language because almost all words are spelled the way they are pronounced. (So if you are Filipino and you spell a Tagalog word wrong, SHAME ON YOU! SHAME ON YOU!)
Which leads us to my second language - English. It's the language the whole Philippine educational system used eversince the 50s.
It hurts me (yes, physically, I feel pain in my gut area) whenever I see Americans write really unnecessarily wrong words or sentences (and I say "unnecessary" because there are a lot of English words that are really hard to spell; quoting one of my American friends "Why does English have to have silent letters? Why put them there in the first place!?!" Hahaha ). Add to this the pain of seeing conjunctions, idioms, or phrases that have been used wrongly just because it sounds similar.
These are some of the words that is little by little killing my interest in Facebook:
To sale; to sell
Hes; His
Their; There; They're
Your; You're (the ultimate favorite!)
Graet; Great
Recieve; Receive (Believe; Beleive)
Would of; Would have
I am not an expert in the English language but at least when I am confused/doubtful I try to use google first and research. Haha!
It reminds me of a saying by Ate Vi: You know, you'll never know, it might be a blessing in the skies. Hahaha!
